Francesca Clause used charcoal to bring a likeness of a fluffy cat to life. Although her piece in the art show is a portrait, she says she's been trying out methods of surrealist art in her latest works.

Frances Clause's offering to the "Celebrate the Arts!" show was a charcoal drawing of a tiger. Clause says her favorite part of art is sketching.

From March 31 to April 7, local residents were given another great reason to visit the Boardman library.

That week, the facility honored Boardman artists from seventh to 12th grades with its “Celebrate the Arts!” art show, where it displayed paintings and drawings in the library’s foyer.

The opening party for the week-long event was March 31, and students and teachers showed up to see the artwork in the facility.

Edie Davidson teaches art at Boardman High School and appreciates the support the library offers.

“It seems simple, but the students seeing something they’ve imagined and followed through to the end gives them a great amount of pride. Our schools offer phenomenal support for the arts, but every bit of exposure helps. We’re very glad that the library offers us this opportunity.”

Andrea Przybylski helped the Boardman art teachers in the planning the event.

“We love to offer the community support. The show brings people in and adds a bit of beauty to everyone’s visit to the library. We’re very happy to welcome them,” Przybylski said of the show.

Artwork for the show was chosen by the Boardman High School and middle school art teachers, and represented a cross section of the themes and mediums that students have been exploring during the year.

The success of the show was shown in the excitement evident in students like Frances and Francesca Clause, who work with Glenwood art teacher Charlene Galose. The girls spend early hours in the art room and plan on continuing their interests in high school.

“I think I like art because I like to create things,” said Francesca Clause of her favorite subject. “I like to see something that started in my imagination become more real and perfect.”
