ACTION will lobby Eastwood gun dealers
Niles
Members of ACTION (Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods) will visit Niles Gun Show at Eastwood Expo Center at 1 p.m. Saturday.
They will talk with private gun sellers about a loophole in federal law that allows private sellers to sell guns without conducting background checks.
ACTION members will hand out fact sheets and speak with gun show vendors and attendees to draw attention to the role that gun shows play in arming criminals and to launch a campaign to persuade Niles Gun Show Inc. to require background checks on all guns sold at its shows.
McClurg Road crash

One person was taken to the hospital after two minivans collided at South Avenue and McClurg Road in Boardman Thursday afternoon.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash and did not provide the name or condition of the individual who was treated.
Morphine to teens

Police charged Jeffrey Gershmen of James Lane, Girard, with endangering children and corruption with drugs after an incident around 9:10 p.m. Monday on James Lane, where they were called about an assault among neighbors.
While there, an individual spoke to police about his daughter and her friend, 15- and 16-year-olds, who said they were given a drug by Gershmen because they had headaches. Gershmen said the pills were 30-milligram tablets of morphine. He is the stepfather of one of the girls; both were taken to a hospital for evaluation.
Gershmen appeared this week in Girard Municipal Court; a preliminary hearing will be Wednesday.
Sex photos found
North Jackson
Jackson Township police arrested Milbur Stout after an investigation uncovered sexually explicit photos of a minor at his residence.
Police Chief Ken Frost said Stout, 41, formerly of Mahoning Avenue, is charged with pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.
Frost said during an investigation into Stout, police found photos, sexual in nature, at his home. He is in Mahoning County jail and will be arraigned at 1 p.m. Monday in Mahoning County Area Court in Austintown.
Frost said because the investigation is ongoing, he could not comment further on the case.
Campaign signs stolen
WARREN
Warren Councilman Bob Dean, a candidate for Warren president of council, says he has had 32 of his campaign signs in the southwestern and northwestern parts of the city stolen or damaged. He is offering a $150 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone who is responsible.

On Saturday, the Davis Family YMCA is encouraging all kids and parents to come to the Y for a play date and commit to being active every day.
It’s all part of the YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day – the nation’s largest health day for families. The free event will take place from noon to 3 p.m. and feature activities such as Camp Expo, Davis Family YMCA Preschool Open House, Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) toy sale, crafts, games, massages, Bounce-A-Round and healthy snacks offered by local businesses.

Garden dedication
YOUNGSTOWN
A Southside Community Garden dedication will be Sunday at 2 p.m. on the 100 block of Williamson Avenue on the city’s South Side.
At the event, the land will be dedicated to God, a ground-breaking will follow sometime in May, and there will be two sunflower beds and a pumpkin patch among items planted.
Southside Community Garden is a sponsored project of Grow Youngstown, with funding coming from the Raymond John Wean Foundation Neighborhood SUCCESS Grant Program.
The garden is located on the corner of Williamson Avenue and Erie Street, one block west of Interstate 680.
