The United Way of Trumbull County raised $1.1 million in 2010, which is a slight increase over last year and reflects increases “across almost all sectors,” officials said.

The 2010 campaign resulted in 39 companies and organizations having an increase of at least 10 percent of giving and 16 firms generating increases of 25 percent or more. Another 31 companies and organizations conducted their initial campaign efforts, United Way said.

“It’s especially pleasing to note that Campaign 2010 reflects the first appeal in several years to raise more than the prior year’s pledges and contributions,” said Jerry J. McGee, vice president and chief financial officer of Seven Seventeen Credit Union and 2010 campaign chairman.

“In a year of uncertainty throughout our community, this was not an easy task,” McGee said.

McGee made his remarks Tuesday when the organization met at Leo’s Ristorante to recognize 150 community leaders and volunteers who participated in the 2010 campaign.

“Despite the obstacles, we enlisted a qualified and committed campaign team, expanded special events, enrolled new leadership givers and strengthened our community-impact initiatives,” McGee said.

The organization also bestowed awards on 79 area companies, organizations and employee groups. The highest ones went to Trumbull Mobile Meals and Farmer’s National Bank for achieving the highest giving totals.

Special recognition also went to St. Joseph Health Center for sponsoring the Mahoning Valley Scrappers home-run promotion, LensCrafters for its “Gift of Sight” program and Huntington Bank for its “Stuff the Bus” school-supplies program.
