The Mahoning and Trumbull County Suicide Prevention Coalitions are offering a free breakfast training session for area clergy to raise awareness about suicide prevention on April 26 from 7:30 to 10 a.m. at the Help Hotline Community Center, 1344 Fifth Ave., Youngstown.
The event will include a panel discussion, individual presentations and questions and answers. The registration deadline is Friday. Call the Mahoning County Mental Health Board at 330-746-2959, ext. 7975. The workshop is financed by the Area Agency on Aging 11.
Volunteer brunch

Free screenings

The Visiting Nurse Association, 518 E. Indianola Ave., is offering free health screenings and a presentation by Atty. Elizabeth Farbman, “Legal Matters for Seniors,” from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday. Immunization clinic
NILES
The Niles Health Department is offering a child immunization clinic from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the health department, 34 West State St. Appointments are not necessary, and no one will be refused service because of inability to pay. To be immunized, children should be feeling well with no illness, fever or rash, and parents or guardians must bring their child’s immunization records.
Baby-sitter training

Family event

Mahoning County Family and Children’s First Council, in collaboration with Mahoning County Children Services, Help Me Grow, and Help Hotline Crisis Center, is offering a family event, “Strong Families Growing Safe Kids,” at 10 a.m. Saturday at MillCreek Metroparks Fellows Riverside Gardens.
The goal of the event is to create awareness and provide solutions to prevent child abuse and neglect. The event includes educational sessions that focus on parental stress management, positive-discipline and child- rearing practices, nurturing and attachment, Internet safety and parenting children with disabilities.
There also will be activity stations for children where they can hear a story, make a craft, play bingo and receive FBI Identikits. Resource Toolkits, including a free Berenstain Bears storybook on stranger danger, a “Protecting My Body” coloring book, a “My Body is My Own” wristband, and resources and tips on Internet safety are available to the first 200 children. Local vendors will distribute information about services they offer.
The event, funded by the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund, is free to the public.
