OSHP: Alcohol involved in crash that killed woman, fetus

Staff report

CANFIELD

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post confirmed alcohol was involved in a head-on crash that killed a 55-year-old woman.

An unborn child also died, the patrol said.

A vehicle driven by Raechel Anne Zorger, 25, of Canfield, went left of center on Detwiler Road and crashed with a car driven by Darla Schumacher, 55, of Detwiler Road, Monday evening,

reports state.

Schumacher was killed; Zorger, who was six months pregnant, was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center

in Youngstown, and her

unborn child did not survive, said Trooper Brad Bucey.

Zorger “had alcohol in her system, but [the patrol] is not releasing exactly how much,” Bucey said.

The crash is still under

investigation, and no charges have been filed yet.

The patrol is waiting for an autopsy report to determine whether it was the alcohol or the crash that killed the 6-month-old fetus, Bucey said.
