MCDONALD

The board of education approved a stipend of $20 a day for Superintendent Barry Morrison to work part time through July 31.

Morrison had offered to work through the remainder of his contract for free since he has worked the 80 days required of him under his one-year contract, which expires July 31.

He was hired officially Aug. 1, 2010, to replace outgoing full-time Superintendent Michael Wasser, who resigned. Morrison’s daily rate of pay was $345 a day for a total of $27,600 for 80 days under the contract.

The $20-a-day payment went into effect April 4 for each day worked over the 80-day period.

The board also accepted the resignation of Jeff Rasile as high school varsity boys basketball coach. Rasile said he is resigning to spend more time with his family.

Rasile has won both state and county recognition as the coach with a team with a 63-game winning streak. The McDonald Blue Devils’ season is over for this year, ending in a trip to the regional, a first for McDonald basketball.

The team is one win away from tying the county record for regular-season wins, high school principal Gary Carkido said.

“It will be difficult to replace him,” Carkido said, noting his impressive record.

Rasile has coached at McDonald for eight years, amassing a 164-28 record. He also teaches at Champion, where he was a former coach.
