A longtime Shenango Township business was destroyed by fire early Wednesday.

Palumbo’s Meat Market, 3600 Hubbard-Middlesex Road, caught fire around 4 a.m., according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner WFMJ-TV.

The blaze spread to the owners’ home above the market. The residence was destroyed as well, but owners Keith and Debra Palumbo made it out safely.

The loss of the home and business is estimated at nearly $1 million. The market had been in business for 19 years.

Keith Palumbo said he and his wife were asleep when an alarm went off around 4 a.m.

He went down to investigate, and when he saw the flames, he tried to put them out himself.

He also alerted his wife and told her to call 911.

Palumbo’s had been smoking hams for Easter orders, and the paperwork for the orders has been lost.

Palumbo said people who still want to order hams can contact the business’ second location in Sandy Lake. They also can use Palumbo’s Facebook page.
