Dog recovering after being shot

A dog that was shot and found on someone’s porch is continuing to recover after surgery at a local veterinarians’s.
The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County is still trying to find out who owns the American bulldog, which was found Sunday afternoon on a porch in Brookfield.
Ken Herlinger, a humane officer with the League, said the people who found the dog called. At first, the after-hours responders thought the dog might have been in a fight with a porcupine.
But when he saw the dog Monday morning, Herlinger said, he suspected it had been shot.
Herlinger would not say exactly where the dog was found or what veterinarian performed surgery on the dog Wednesday.
He said the vet confirmed the dog had been shot. Birdshot pellets were removed, and the vet showed him gunpowder on the dog’s ear, Herlinger said.
He said the dog is recovering as well as can be expected, but one of the pellets penetrated its eye.
The male dog is white, about 65 or 70 pounds and about 3 or 4 years old, Herlinger said.
He said anyone with information should call 330-394-3512 or 330-399-2086.
