The Victorian Players, who will mark their 20th anniversary in the 2011-12 season, will open the season with “Amadeus.”

Terri Wilkes will direct the play, which will run weekends Sept. 9-25.

“Amadeus” follows the contentious relationship between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and fellow composer Antonio Salieri.

Curtain times for “Amadeus” — and all of the plays on the schedule —are 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Call 330-746-5455 for reservations.

The rest of the season is as follows:

“A Light in the Darkness: A Story of Hope During the Holocaust,” Oct. 15-30: This production, written and directed by J.E. Ballantyne Jr. of Youngstown, will be the world premiere and will occupy the slot the Vic usually reserves for Halloween fare. “Light” is based on the story of Holocaust survivor Eva Schloss (Anne Frank’s stepsister). Schloss, who now lives in London, will come to Youngstown for the premiere. For more information, see the article on Page 2 of this edition of Vibe.

“Sherlock Holmes and the West End Horror,” Feb. 10-26, 2012: Directed by Sam Luptak Jr., this adventure begins with the murder of a theater critic who is murdered in London’s West End. The great detective takes the case but runs afoul of literary giants, including Oscar Wilde, Gilbert and Sullivan, Bram Stoker and H.G. Wells.

“The Foreigner,” March 16-31, 2012: Offbeat characters in a rural Georgia fishing lodge keep the laughs coming in this comedy directed by Shawn Lockaton.

“An Evening of One-Acts,” May 4-20, 2012: Director Brian Lee will stage “Box & Cox,” “The Lighthouse Keeper’s Daughter” and “The Proposal.”

“The Lion in Winter,” June 8-24, 2012: Drama about the tempestuous marriage of Henry II of England and Eleanor of Aquitaine; directed by Sam Luptak Jr.

Two special events on the season (not part of season-ticket packages) will be a burlesque variety show Nov. 4-5 and “In the Spirit of Christmas,” Dec. 2-3 and 9-10.
