125-plus students to take part in Youth Day of Caring

More than 125 students will participate Saturday in the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley’s 10th annual Youth Day of Caring.
During the community- service-project event, which is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., student groups from area high schools complete outdoor and indoor cleanup projects, odd jobs and other activities for area nonprofit social-service agencies, said Tara Mady, director of marketing and communications for the local United Way.
Scheduled to participate are the Cardinal Mooney High School National Honor Society and Service Club; Ohio State University Young Scholars; Poland Seminary High School Leadership Group; Stambaugh Charter Academy; Struthers High School National Honor Society; United Way Young Leaders Society; Ursuline High School Interact Club; and The Youngstown Connection, Mady said.
The students will assemble at 8 a.m. at the YMCA in downtown Youngstown for breakfast and an overview of the day. They will then depart for their assigned locations to complete their projects. They will return to the YMCA at noon for lunch and to share their experiences.
Project sites include Boulevard Park Block Watch, Burdman Group, Jubilee Gardens, Lien Forward Ohio Regional Council of Governments, Neighborhood Ministries — Kirwan Center, OH WOW! Children’s Center for Science and Technology, Park Vista, Ursuline Sisters HIV Ministry (Casa Madre), Youngstown City Scape, Youngstown Hearing and Speech Center, Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation, and YWCA of Youngstown — Discovery Place West.
Event sponsors are Farmers National Bank, Panera Bread, Wedgewood Pizza, Coca-Cola, Sam’s Club, and Ink’n Thread Works.
