NORTH CANTON

ATM maker Diebold Inc. is planning to build a new world headquarters on its home turf in Ohio.

The North Canton-based company said Tuesday it’s looking to consolidate its existing offices in the Akron/Canton area at a new $100 million campus in the region. It’s considering a handful of possible sites for the facility, where 1,500 employees will work.

Diebold says the decision comes after discussions that involved officials in other states. Ohio offered about $56 million in incentives including tax credits and loans so Diebold would stay.

Republican Gov. John Kasich joined officials for the announcement Tuesday. He says he’s excited Diebold is staying.

Diebold also makes other self-service machines. It says it has more than 16,000 employees in more than 90 countries.
