Sulskis earns Roselli Award; Brown is MVP

YOUNGSTOWN
Senior Vytas Sulskis, who led the Youngstown State men’s basketball team in scoring, was named the recipient of the Dom Roselli Coaches Award at the team’s banquet on Sunday.
Sophomore Brandi Brown was named MVP of the women’s team.
Sulkis finished his career as YSU’s 16th all-time leading scorer with 1,311 points, and led the Penguins in scoring with 392 points (13.1 points per game) and 43 3-pointers. Sulskis finished his career ranked second on the all-time 3-pointers list with 179.
Sulskis, who was presented a commemorative basketball honoring his 1,000th career point, also received the Scholar-Athlete Award with a grade-point average of 3.26.
The team’s Most Improved Player Award went to sophomore Blake Allen, who ranked second on the team with 47 3-pointers.
Allen averaged 10.1 points per game over the last 17 contests of the season. He averaged 7.1 points and 2.5 assists per game for the season, and led the Horizon League with a 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Sophomore Damian Eargle won the Leo Mogus Leading Rebounder Award, averaging 6 rebounds per game. Eargle was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team after leading the league with 91 blocked shots and scoring 11.3 points per game. Eargle ranked 10th in the nation in blocked shots per game.
Freshman Kendrick Perry earned two awards — the Tony Vivo Hustle Award and the Top Assists Award. Perry led the team with 122 assists, ranking fourth in the Horizon League.
Freshman Josh Chojnacki won the Free-Throw Award, shooting 84.6 percent for the season.
Brown won the Horizon League scoring title by averaging 19.9 points overall and 22.6 points in conference play. She also ranked fourth in rebounding, seventh in field goal percentage and eighth in minutes played. Brown was a second-team All-Horizon League pick.
Nationally, Brown ranked 15th in scoring and 49th in rebounding. She was one of only 10 players in the country to rank in the top 50 in both categories, and only three of those 10 were sophomores.
