Police: Man fatally shoots himself in Ohio police lot

HILLIARD, Ohio (AP) — Police in an Ohio suburb say a man drove into their department’s parking lot, shot himself in his car and later died.

Detective Sgt. Mike Redmond in the Columbus suburb of Hilliard says the 46-year-old man was pronounced dead at a hospital. He says the man was discovered inside a silver Dodge minivan with a gunshot wound to the head at a little after 10 a.m. Redmond says two women reported they’d seen a person in distress inside the van.

The detective says the driver had been captured on a security camera pulling into the lot about a half-hour earlier.

Police had to break into the locked van to get the man out, and they also found a gun. Redmond says he’s not aware that anyone heard a gunshot.
