Artistic celebration of gays set for YSU

“StandOut 2011,” an artistic celebration of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex and asexual community in the Youngstown area, will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday outside Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.
The event will feature informational tables for community organizations and sponsors. Activities will include banner and rock painting, ribbon giveaways, a bake sale, live performances and more.
“StandOut 2011” seeks to create strong networks of support, encourage teamwork and diversity and build relationships between all members of the local LGBTQIA community on and off YSU’s campus.

Relay For Life sponsors Pittsburgh casino trip

Relay For Life of Poland is taking fundraising on the road.
On Saturday, a Relay For Life team will take two charter buses to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. The cost per person is $40, which includes travel expenses, $15 slot play and a $5 food voucher. The bus will leave at 5 p.m. from Poland Medical Center, 6615 Clingan Road, and return later that night.
Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of Poland. Tickets are available by calling event organizer Jen Greco at 330-720-8731.
City man faces weapons charge

Police arrested Adrian Patterson, 29, of the 700 block of Norwood Avenue, on a charge of carrying a concealed weapon after a traffic stop about 11 p.m. Saturday on Wick Avenue.
Police on patrol saw Patterson turn northbound on Wick from Bissell without using any signal.
Police conducted a traffic stop and noticed the driver leaning over to the passenger side. When police asked for Patterson’s license and registration, an officer saw a black firearm stuffed into the passenger side’s rear pocket. The weapon was a Sig Sauger Model 22 .45 caliber and loaded. Patterson was taken to Mahoning County jail.
Mahoning auditor wins kudos from group

For the fourth-consecutive year, the Mahoning County Auditor’s office has received the certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting from a major professional association.
The county received the award for its comprehensive annual financial report from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. The certificate is the association’s highest form of recognition for government accounting and financial reporting.
With offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C., the association serves about 17,500 government finance professionals.
Community grant

Goodwill Industries has received a $1,000 Allstate Insurance Agency Hands in the Community grant in recognition of the commitment to volunteerism of Mark Zeidenstein, a principal of L. Calvin Jones & Co., Boardman-Canfield Road. Zeidenstein is a member of the Goodwill Board of Directors.
“Mark has done so much for Goodwill Industries for many years, and we appreciate his efforts so much, especially during this tough economic climate we’re in,” said Michael McBride, Goodwill executive director.
The Allstate grant program recognizes Encompass/Allstate insurance agents for outstanding community service with a $1,000 donation to a charitable organization.
Philly Eagles’ exec to speak at YSU event

Pamela Browner-White, a Youngstown State University alumna and a senior vice president for the Philadelphia Eagles, is the featured speaker for Communication Week at YSU April 18-22.
Browner-White, who earned a bachelor’s degree at YSU in 1987, joined the Eagles in 2008 as senior vice president of public affairs and government relations. She came to the Eagles from Citizens Bank, where she had been senior vice president and director of public affairs.
Her presentation, titled “Adventures of a Communications Professional,” is at noon April 21 in the Williamson College of Business Administration, Room 3422.
