Rockies edge Pirates 6-5 on bases-loaded walk

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Seth Smith drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning and Colorado kept up its strong start with a 6-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday, giving the Rockies three wins in four games of their first road series this season.

Smith, who had an RBI single in Colorado’s four-run first, drew his two-out walk from Mike Crotta (0-1) in the seventh.

Jose Lopez hit a three-run homer in the first for the Rockies, who ended last season by dropping their last eight road games. They’re 3-1 outside Colorado so far, and have now been alone in first in the NL West five straight days for the first time since 2006.

Jhoulys Chacin (2-0) allowed four earned runs and seven hits in six innings. Colorado’s starters are 5-0 this season. Huston Street pitched a perfect ninth for his fourth save.
