Men who participate will show what’s cooking
YOUNGSTOWN
“Men Who Cook” will be back in the kitchen from 6 to 10 p.m. April 29 for a fundraiser that benefits Catholic Charities Regional Agency.
The sixth annual event, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Hall, 343 Via Mount Carmel, features local notable men cooking their favorite dishes for sampling by attendees. Local women will judge the dishes on their special qualities.
The top prizes are the Judge’s Choice and the People’s Choice awards — all done in the spirit of fun to raise money for Catholic Charities’ Emergency Financial Assistance Program.
This year, chefs include such notables as Youngstown State University Football Coach Eric Woolford, United Way’s Bob Hannon, Donald Koenig of St. Elizabeth Health Center, Mike Seelman of Northside Medical Center, Al Blank of First Place Bank, The Rev. John Jerek, and WFMJ’s Mark Monstrola.
Returning chefs are Terry Daprile from Gem-Young Insurance and Judge Gene Donofrio, among many others.
Noteworthy judges include YSU President Cynthia Anderson, Judges Kay Woods and Maureen Sweeney, Carol Holmes, wife of McDonald Mayor Glenn Holmes (who will cook), and Roxann Sebest of WKBN/Fox.
This year, the major contributor is Blessed Sacrament Parish in Warren, and the event sponsor is The DeBartolo Corporation. Other leading sponsors include First Place Bank, Humility of Mary Health Partners, and Drs. James and Cynthia Kravec.
As part of its fundraising efforts, Catholic Charities Regional Agency also is seeking sponsors, donors, gift baskets and gift certificates to local establishment.
Tickets are on sale for the event at $35 per person. For information on tickets, contact Joanna Parker at 330-744-3320 or jparker@ccregional.org.
