After a long, cold winter, White House Fruit Farm welcomed spring during its annual White House Weekend March 19-20.

Throughout the two-day event, 25 vendors offered samples of their products.

“This event is our annual spring kick-off. It features several local food vendors which produce products we already stock in our store or we may pick up some new products from a participant. All vendors are either local or from Ohio. We like to support local and Ohio entrepreneurs who have gone into business,” said Debbie Pifer, Whitehouse Fruit Farm owner.

The event also highlighted the beginning of maple syrup season.

A table was set up for visitors to taste test the variety of maple syrup White House has to offer, along with a sample of waffles.

Charlie Halverstadt offered samples of Charlie Horse Salsa. Based in Boardman, it is his wife, Lynne, who produces the salsa, but it is his recipe. Halverstadt is a regular at White House Weekend and his salsa is sold at the store.

White House also takes this opportunity to introduce its own new products, along with highlighting its perennial favorites, such as its baked goods.

“Our staff does a lot of preparation for this weekend, and we hope everyone who attends enjoys themselves,” said Pifer.

Pifer also mentioned that White House will celebrate the ever-popular Bonnie’s fourth birthday with a party May 14.

Bonnie, a Border Collie, will celebrate with a birthday cake, clowns, pony rides and “dog activities.”
