Poland baseball drops season-opener to Ursuline
The Poland varsity baseball team built a 9-0 lead, but Ursuline rallied for an 11-10 victory Saturday at Cene Park.
The Bulldogs (0-1) scored nine runs in the top of the first inning, but could only muster one more run the rest of the game. The tilt was tied at 9-all after Ursuline scored nine runs in the bottom of the first.
The Irish (1-0) scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh when a batter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Nick Andrews belted a triple for Poland, while Colin Reardon had a double.
Girls track squad eighth at Cope Invitational
The Poland girls track team (34) opened the outdoor season by taking eighth at the F.E. Cope Invitational April at Reilly Stadium in Salem. Canfield (107) won the team title, followed by Massillon Perry (95) and Fitch (93).
McKinsie Klim won the 3200 with a time of 12:26.11 and Carolyn Balzano finished third in the 200 in 27.85.
Boys track team ninth at Ward Invite
The Poland boys track team began the outdoor season Saturday by placing ninth at the Ward Invitational in East Palestine. The Bulldogs scored 27 team points. Fitch (130.5) won the meet.
Kevin Krumpak finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:04.94 and the 4X800 relay squad took second in a time of 8:46.75.
Trumbull Country Club hosts golf outing
The 14th annual Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic’s Golf Classic will be June 20 at the Trumbull Country Club.
The cost is $150 per golfer. Sponsorships are also available.
In addition to the outing, there is a mega raffle that includes various condo stays, electronics, sports memorabilia and sporting events tickets. Tickets are $20 each or six for $100.
