The Poland library’s activity room doesn’t see friendly competition every day. However, on March 31, three Poland teens talked the talk in the library’s Teen Tech Week Wii Tournament as they competed in double elimination rounds in Wii bowling.

The game didn’t start out too competitive. Laura Josten and Jordan Blake began their bowling faceoff by wondering how others make it look so easy.

“My little brother gets strikes on every frame,” Blake said as she bowled. “I don’t know how he does it.”

However, as the games progressed between Josten, Blake, and their friend Sara, friendly smack talk began to fly. The girls were kicking each other by the last game, and telling each other to prepare for second place.

In the end, it was Josten who won the top prize, a $25 gift card to the movies.

“My friends and I are in a writing club here at the library. We meet and write stories together after school. With my prize, I hope that I can take our club all out to the movies as a treat,” Josten said of her plans.

John Waller, the teen librarian for the facility, officiated the competition and was glad the girls had fun with their afternoon.

“Teens are a hard age to entertain — we understand that there are activities, work, and school to contend with, after all. But the library works very hard to reach out to this age, and I’m glad the girls left today with smiles on their faces,” Waller said.
