Campolito breaks trio of three-point records

Canfield senior basketball player Danny Campolito broke a trio of three-point records this season.

On Feb. 15, against Beaver Local, Campolito scored 31 points, hitting 10 three-pointers and brreaking J.D. Minotti’s record of six three-point shots in one game set in 1994-95.

Three days later against Niles McKinley, Campolito broke John Kish’s 1995-96 record of 48 three-pointers in a season with 52. Campolito then broke Kyle Melewiski’s career record of 95 three-pointers set in 1993-1995.

He scored his 105th three-pointer against Canton Timken in Canfield’s second tournament game played at the Canton Civic Center March 4.

Campolito started playing organized basketball in a YMCA league at age 6, played on a church league from fourth to sixth grade, Canfield Middle School and then for the high school team. He lettered as a sophomore and earned a starting position in his junior year.

During the offseason in his junior year, he played on an AAU league. While basketball has been a large part of his life, Campolito plans to give it up to attend the University of Akron this fall so he can study teaching.
