An 18-year-old Boardman man is facing a felonious-assault charge after he and another man were treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center for injuries they suffered as they struggled over a handgun.
Facing the felonious-assault charge is Ivan Lipscomb, of Rush Circle, who remained in Mahoning County jail under a $50,000 bond after his initial appearance by video Friday before Magistrate Anthony Sertick of Youngstown Municipal Court. Lipscomb will have his preliminary hearing at 10:45 a.m. Thursday before Judge Elizabeth Kobly.
Shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday, outside a home in the 3500 block of Firnley Avenue, the victim, John Hawkins, 24, of East Lucius Avenue, told police Lipscomb produced a handgun and told him to empty his pockets.
As the men struggled over the gun, it discharged, striking Hawkins in the right knee. Lipscomb suffered an injury to his left hand in the struggle.
Although the police report describes the incident as an aggravated robbery, court records show Lipscomb being charged only with felonious assault.
