Boardman boys open outdoor track season


The Boardman High School boys track team opened its season with an 84-53 setback at the hands of the Fitch Falcons.

The Spartans opened the meet with a victory by seniors Corey Zell, Alex Scott and Eddie Adu-Poku and sophomore Sam Sheronovich in the 4x800-meter relay.

In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Clayvon Finch placed third in a time of 16.2 seconds. In the 100-meter dash, Spartan sophomore Nathan Jones placed second in 11.2 seconds and junior Devin Campbell was third with a time of 11.3 seconds.

Freshman Mark Hadley took first with a time of 4:41 in the 1600-meter run and was followed by Adu-Poku in a time of 4:42.

The Spartans won the 4x100-meter relay with the team of Jones, Campbell, senior Nick Buonavolanta and freshman Ivan Adu-Poku in a time of 43.4 seconds. Senior Trae Robinson finished second in the 400-meter run with a time of 50.9 seconds.

In the 800-meter run, Scott placed third with a time of 2:12, while in the 200 run Campbell finished second in a time of 22.8 seconds.

Eddie Adu-Poku won the 3200 in 10:08 and Hadley was third with a time of 10:19.

In the field events, junior John Kuczek won the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 1 inch, senior Luis Salomon was third with a heave of 43-3. Junior Brian Linsley placed third in the discus with a throw of 133-5.

In the pole vault, Zell finished second with a vault of 9-0. In the long jump, senior Leandre Jackson finished third with a leap of 5-10, while in the long jump, sophomore Allen Starkey took first and Robinson finished third.
