Austintown Senior Center hub of activity
The Austintown Senior Center, located at 100 Westchester Drive, will host a variety of activities this month.
Wellness Monday will take place at noon April 11 with free hearing, vision, blood pressure and medication checks as well as Medicare information.
The television show “Senior Focus” features speakers at the center each Friday starting at 11:30 a.m.
This month’s topics are the local senior centers and their services Friday, Dick Hartzell and senior exercise April 15 and the Veterans Service Commission April 22.
Painting classes return to the center at 9:30 a.m. each Monday starting April 18. Each class has a $5 fee and participants should bring their own materials. Tuesday and April 19 at 10:30 a.m. Zumba classes are offered, while on the April 12 and April 26 at 10 a.m. line dance classes are available with donations requested for these activities. Each Wednesday at noon, Tai Chi exercise is offered. Every Thursday at 9:30 a.m. features a yoga class at the center with a $2 fee for the instructor.
Numerous trips are on tap in April. On April 12, seniors can travel to Daffin’s Candies, Kraynak’s nursery and the shops of Volant. On April 28, the van will go to the Akron Art Museum and Harry London chocolates in North Canton. On April 20, there will be a bus trip to Mountaineer Casino and April 26 a trip to Rivers Casino.
The monthly birthday party and 50/50 drawing will be April 28.
Wii games and cards are available during center hours from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. Seniors are encouraged to practice Wii bowling and sign up for next month’s tournament.
Seniors are invited to sign up for a golf league at the Mill Creek Park Par 3 course starting in late April or early May.
