Two open houses planned in Hubbard

Staff report

hubbard

It will be a day of two open houses planned from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday for Hubbard Public Library, 436 W. Liberty St., and Hubbard Historical Society’s McBride House, 27 Hager St.

The first 125 visitors to the library will receive a reusable book bag. Library volunteers who attend will receive a token of gratitude for their service in 2010. The theme of the event is “create your own story at your library.”

The library also will sponsor a book sale, “All About Me” book-making, database demonstrations, a craft program for children and demonstrations of popular services such as Learning Express, Freegal, Ohio Web Library, BookFlix and Know It Now.

Members of the Fortnightly Craft Group will showcase their crafts and answer questions about the craft sessions that take place the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Visitors also may visit the altered book art gallery.

There also will be prizes and refreshments.

There will be no checkout of library materials during the open house.

The historical society will play on the library’s theme by offering free materials to get people started on compiling their own family histories. A walk through the McBride House even may reveal a few of your ancestors or family heirlooms.

Society members will scan old photos and get descriptions of photos for society archives. Photos may be used in a society publication.
