Some Ohio voters to get ponchos to cover school gear
MARIETTA, Ohio (AP) — Voters in one Ohio county who show their school pride at the polls next month will be asked to cover up with a poncho.
Elections board members in southeast Ohio’s Washington County are asking voters not to come to polling places on May 3 dressed in clothing that promotes local schools that have tax measures on the ballot.
Board member Jim Huggins said at a meeting this week that the Marietta and Warren school issues seem to be stirring up intense feelings.
Board director Peggy Byers tells The Associated Press voters wearing a shirt or other attire with a school name will be given a poncho.
The policy was first reported by WBNS-TV of Columbus. State elections officials did not immediately return a call for comment today.
