Prostitution equals slavery

Prostitution equals slavery

A March 10 column by Mi- chael Smerconish suggests that since prostitution has always existed as the world’s “oldest profession” and always will, it would be in the best interest of society to make it legal.

Another argument for legalizing prostitution is that just as Prohibition did not stop people from making, selling or consuming alcohol, and laws against gambling didn’t stop gambling, making things that will always exist legal is the best solution. By that logic, perhaps murder, armed robbery, burglary, rape, child molestation, domestic violence, and every criminal act known to mankind should also be made legal.

I believe if God approved of people sellling their bodies, we’d be born with price tags dangling from our wrists instead of having God-given souls.

Whether a person sells their body willingly or by force they are robbing themselves of their self worth, self esteem, respect, dignity and a God-loving spirit. I have always felt that prostitution in any form or on any level is the same as slavery. When a person’s body is sold to satisfy another person’s desire, that is a form of slavery, and slavery has and always will be pure evil.

While people have the right to satisfy their sexual needs, there is a right way and a wrong way to do this.

Boardman puts on a great show

After seeing a billboard ad vertising the Boardman High School production of “Hairspray,” I decided to take a young friend of mine to see it. It was beyond excellent, if that’s possible. The production was very professionally done. And the acting — those kids were spectacular.

I am not affiliated with the school or any of the actors, but with all the flack about how bad kids are today, someone should commend those who are doing good things. The students in the orchestra were very good also, as were the “techies.” The drama club adviser and director are to be congratulated.

I am looking forward to the productions in coming school years.
