Police probe armed robberies

Police are investigating three armed robberies in the city, including one in which between $8,000 and $9,000 was taken.
Police were sent to the 700 block of East Lucius Avenue at 8:19 a.m. Wednesday after a call that two men, one carrying a gun, kicked open the door to a home where a man, woman and child were inside.
The victims told police the two men, both wearing all black clothes, kicked open the door accused the male of messing with someone’s girlfriend then demanded cash.
They forced the female to lie face down on the floor and the male victim was hit in the face with the gun, suffering cuts to his eyebrow, nose and lip.
Reports say the couple handed over between $8,000 and $9,000 being kept in a bedroom. The thieves also took a 2007 Cadillac that was parked in the driveway. The car later was recovered abandoned on East Earle Avenue.
According to police reports, the delivery driver for a Market Street Chinese-food restaurant was robbed at gunpoint at 9 p.m. Wednesday while delivering a food order in the 100 block of West Boston Avenue on the South Side.
Reports say the 24-year-old driver went to the Boston Avenue address to deliver food to a home that has ordered from the restaurant several times in the past. He told police a group of people were standing around a neighboring house as he made the delivery.
The driver told police he was headed back to his car after making the delivery when a man wearing a white hoodie pointed a gun at his side and demanded all the money he was carrying. The driver handed over between $150 and $200, and the man walked off on Boston.
Police also were called to the WRTA bus station downtown at 10:20 a.m. Wednesday for an armed robbery involving a knife.
According to police reports, a 33-year-old Pennsylvania man was at the bus station looking to catch a bus out of town when a man wearing a black hat, black coat and white shoes pulled a knife on him and demanded his money. The man told police he handed over $67.
Police searched for the thief, but could not find anyone fitting the description.
