POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard, Liberty and Hubbard:

GIRARD

April 2

Criminal mischief: A key was used to damage the finish on a pickup truck near Wilson Avenue and South State Street.

Criminal damaging: Eggs were tossed at a vehicle in the 50 block of East Wilson Avenue.

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 100 block of Seneca Drive struck a car with eggs.

Harassment: A South Elruth Drive woman said a man in California made a vulgar call.

April 3

Domestic violence: Police charged Michael A. Payich of 107 Seneca Drive, Girard, with the crime after Payich’s wife alleged he had pushed her during an argument.

April 4

Harassment: A Townsend Avenue woman reported getting four derogatory and threatening text messages.

April 5

Assault: A teacher at Girard High School, 1244 Shannon Road, told police a disruptive student pushed a desk toward her, striking her in the stomach.

LIBERTY

April 1

Theft: A woman reported the theft of her purse at a Goldie Road store.

Assault: A township woman told officers her 11-year-old grandson was punched in the head while on a school bus.

Theft: Brian J. Evans, 52, of 2958 Roosevelt Drive, Youngstown, was charged with taking a package of socks from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza. Evans also was wanted on a traffic charge from Youngstown.

Arrest: Authorities investigating possible narcotics use at a Liberty motel charged 33-year-old Melanie D. Paulin, 305 Superior St., Youngstown, with being a convicted felon with a firearm as well as possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia. A revolver, 57 syringes and a suspected crack pipe were found, a report said.

Criminal damaging and trespassing: Someone cut two padlocks and entered an Ohio Edison Co. substation near Belmont Avenue and state Route 304.

Domestic violence: A 17-year-old township boy was charged with domestic violence and juvenile offenses after his father alleged the teen had repeatedly punched him in the back during an argument about the boy’s computer use.

Drugs/weapon: A traffic stop on Belmont Avenue resulted in the arrest of Lindi R. Walters, 29, of 301 Prospect St., Niles, on charges of carrying a concealed weapon, drug abuse and driving under suspension and with no operator’s license. Several empty containers common to heroin use, a powdery substance thought to be heroin and a large knife were found, a report showed. Also taken into custody was 34-year-old Ronald L. Wilson, 7574 Rose Drive, Lisbon, on a charge of possession of criminal tools.

Arrest: Weathersfield Township police apprehended 30-year-old Robert E. Little, 1599 Liberty Ave., Girard. Little was wanted by Girard Municipal Court on a charge of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.

April 2

Theft: Ryan Mierzwa, 22, of 2643 Homestead Road, Liberty, was charged after police said he refused to return a 13-year-old boy’s $100 MP3 player.

April 3

Arrest: Authorities picked up 28-year-old Michael Yount, 260 Trumbull Ave., Campbell, who was accused of failing to appear for a violation-of-probation hearing.

Theft: A car’s rear license plate was removed in the 4000 block of Monticello Boulevard.

Arrest: Cortland police arrested 41-year-old Michael A. Smith, 210 Erie St., Cortland, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant from the township.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into the Golden Hunan restaurant, 3309 Belmont Ave., via the front door. An undisclosed amount of money was missing.

Burglary: Occurred in the 10 block of Tuttle Drive through a rear door. A $100 digital camera, an Xbox game console and a 32-inch flat-screen TV were among items stolen, for a $2,140 loss.

April 4

Truck theft: A 1998 Ford F-150 pickup truck was stolen in the 5000 block of West Liberty Street.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle’s taillights were damaged in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive.

Arrest: Officers responding to a disturbance in the 2900 block of Northview Boulevard arrested 40-year-old Sherri A. Snyder, 2906 Northview, on a warrant from Pennsylvania.

Recovered property: A Mosier Road woman’s Social Security check was returned after she suspected it had been stolen.

Drugs: Police conducted a welfare check in the 5800 block of Belmont Avenue, where they found a syringe, a spoon with suspected narcotics residue and a pill bottle with an undetermined liquid substance.

April 5

Theft: A worker for a Liberty Plaza store discovered her wallet missing while on break.

Criminal damaging: Someone staying at a Belmont Avenue motel damaged a 27-inch TV in a room.

Burglary: To a home in the 1700 block of Naylor-Lloyd Road after someone kicked in a kitchen door. Among property stolen was a firearm, a game console and a flat-screen TV, for an $1,850 loss.

Burglary: Took place in the 4600 block of Jo Ann Lane, though police found no signs of forced entry. A laptop computer and $1,100 were missing.

HUBBARD

April 1

Drugs: Officers investigating a suspicious car in the 800 block of West Liberty Street charged Jonathan R. McKelvey, 23, of 49 Abbey St., Girard, with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia after saying suspected marijuana and a suspected marijuana pipe were found.

April 2

Breaking and entering: Numerous items were removed from a storage unit someone had entered in the 100 block of Moore Street.

Harassment: A Saul Drive man told police he’s been receiving such calls day and night.

Criminal damaging: Vehicle damage was reported in the 200 block of Princeton Avenue.

April 4

Assault: A woman told police her child was body-slammed at a home in the 300 block of Wheeler Street.

April 5

Assault: Northside Medical Center in Youngstown reported a woman was admitted after her boyfriend, of Parish Avenue, had assaulted her.
