Man killed by pole

A 22-year-old Cochranton man was killed accidentally Thursday while he and two friends were cutting down a wooden utility pole at an abandoned residence along state Route 173 near 4691 Sandy Lake Road, French Creek Township in Mercer County. Pennsylvania State Police Mercer Barracks said the victim, Justin Robert Myers, of 5351 Stopp Road, was struck in the head as the pole was being cut shortly after 6 p.m. The pole had a support cable attached to it, and as the pole began to fall, it snapped back and struck Myers. The victim died at the scene.
6th suspect surrenders
LAKE MILTON
The sixth person believed involved in the kidnapping and robbery of a Beloit man Sunday surrendered to Milton Township police around 3 p.m. Thursday.
The suspect, David Devellin, 24, of Canfield, accompanied by his attorney, Holly Hanni, was charged with robbery, kidnapping, felony theft and intimidation for threatening to murder the victim as the six fled the scene, said Lt. Jeffrey J. Lewis. Police U.S. Marshals had searched for Devellin in several places, including his residence.
The hunt for the six began after the victim showed up naked at a township home around 6:40 p.m. Sunday looking for help. He told police he was taken by the group from the Austintown Walmart to Eciks Cemetery in the township, where they beat, kicked, stripped and robbed him of $1,000.
The other five suspects, four men and a woman, are charged with kidnapping, robbery and felony theft.
Boardman burglary

A 46-year-old man told police he found the back door of his Erie Street home kicked in and several items missing. Police said the burglary took place between 5 and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, and a computer, video-game system and flat-screen television were taken.
Victim’s vigil Tuesday

The Trumbull County chapter of Parents of Murdered Children will have its 26th annual victim’s rights week vigil at 7 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church, 309 North Park Ave. Judge Cynthia Wescott Rice of the 11th District Court of Appeals will be keynote speaker.
