Lowellville 9, McDonald 8
LOWELLVILLE
Lowellville used a seventh-inning rally to defeat arch-rival McDonald to keep the Rockets undefeated at 3-0. Trailing by two entering the final at bat, the Rockets managed three-straight singles, followed by a walk to load the bases for Gerrod Hrushovsky. Hrushovsky belted a ground ball up the middle to plate the tying and winning runs. Frank McDowell picked up his second win and Zach Harklerode had a three-run triple and finished with four RBIs.
Girard 10, Brookfield 0 (6 inn.)
GIRARD
Senior Kyle Richey had a six-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts, while Ryan Trimbur and A.J. Weibel had two hits and three RBIs apiece for Girard (2-1) at Liberty Park. Also for the Indians, Dante DelBene had a single and double for two RBIs, Richey doubled and Nick Cavalier knocked in two runs. Of the 18 Brookfield batters Richey faced, Jeremy Quinlan and Collin Harkulich were the two Warriors (1-1) baserunners.
South Range 9, Columbiana 5
COLUMBIANA
Four errors downed the Clippers and allowed the Raiders to run amok. Despite outhitting their opponents 8-6, the Clippers (3-1) suffered their first loss. The Raiders (2-1) got a triple out of John Pifer and a double from Gerrad Rohan. Kyle Shaffer had a double for Columbiana.
Boardman 9, Canton GlenOak 4
CANTON
The Spartans (3-0, 1-0) remain undefeated after getting past Canton GlenOak in the Federal League opener for both teams. Troy Parks and Alec Neapolitan combined to allow five hits and struck out seven for the winners. Danny Popio and Carmen Tarantino each had a double and scored a run for the Spartans.
Warren JFK 6, Kennedy Cath, 5
NILES
Marco Macali scored on a passed ball from third base with two outs in the bottom of the seventh at Eastwood Field. James Coates and Anthony Rossi each had two hits for JFK (1-0), while Brendan Cox pitched two shutout innings of relief, striking out two, to get the win. Pat Shuman tripled for KC (0-1).
Alliance 9, West Branch 3
BELOIT
The Aviators scored seven runs in the final inning for the win. Jared Grimes had three singles while Austin Croteau and Hunter Cannon each had a double for Alliance (4-0, 2-0). Zach Wyss and Jake Mull had a single and RBI apiece for the Warriors (2-3, 0-3).
Newton Falls 7, Struthers 3
STRUTHERS
In first varsity start, sophomore Logan Harrah pitched three innings of no-hit ball before junior Andy Lubonovic finished for Newton Falls (2-0). Andy Lubonovic had two doubles and three RBIs and Zach Tackett knocked in two runs for the Tigers. Senior Tyler Kernen had three stolen bases for the winners. Tyler Serich had a double and single and two RBIs for Struthers.
SOFTBALL
South Range 9, Columbiana 4
BEAVER TOWNSHIP
The Raider offense exploded for nine runs on 14 hits. Catcher Krisin Robinson went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double. Teammates Madison Yanek and Emily Seman also had doubles for the Raiders (6-0). Kyleah Fullum had a double for Columbiana (2-2).
Newton Falls 4, Struthers 3
NEWTON FALLS
Christina Ford singled in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh for the Tigers. Rachel Affagato (1-2) earned the win.
