Ohio man fleeing authorities dies in crash


BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a man died after fleeing police and sheriff”s deputies in a chase that ended when he crashed on a dead-end street.

Bethel police Chief Mark Planck says a sheriff’s deputy clocked the driver traveling 73 mph in a 55 mph zone early today in Clermont County, just east of Cincinnati.

Planck tells The Cincinnati Enquirer the motorist increased his speed as the deputy chased him. A Bethel police officer joined the pursuit in that village.

The chief says the man crashed into a guardrail after turning onto a dead end around 1 a.m. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Planck says the man had some open warrants for his arrest. The name is being withheld until the man’s relatives can be notified.
