22-year-old killed while cutting down utility pole

COCHRANTON, Pa.

A 22-year-old Cochranton man was accidently killed Thursday while he and two friends were cutting down a wooden utility pole at an abandoned residence along state Route 173 near 4691 Sandy Lake Road, French Creek Township in Mercer County.

Pennsylvania State Police Mercer Barracks said the victim, Justin Robert Myers, of 5351 Stopp Road, was struck in the head as the pole was being cut shortly after 6 p.m.

The pole had a support cable attached to it and as the pole began to fall it snapped back and struck Myers.

The victim died at the scene.
