Police: Alcohol may have prompted campus assault
SWARTHMORE, Pa. (AP) — Police say an on-campus assault of two people at Swarthmore College may have been the result of teenagers seeking alcohol.
Swarthmore Borough police Chief Brian Craig says the victims reported they were assaulted early Sunday after turning down a request by a group of teens who had approached them about obtaining alcohol.
School officials sent a letter to college community on Tuesday saying the assault may have been spurred by homophobia. Dean Liz Braun says a student and a friend were being affectionate when they were assaulted.
Craig says the issue of homophobia was not raised in initial interviews with the victims. He says the investigation into the assault is continuing.
