SENIOR SIDELIGHTS


Austintown Senior Center, 100 Westchester Drive, has planned the following: Tuesday, Zumba at 10:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, tai chi from 4 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, yoga at 9:30 a.m. and Senior Shape Up at 10:30; Friday, Senior Focus at 11:30 a.m. will feature talks by representatives from McGuffey Center and Niles Senior Center. Lunch is available at 11:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. Registration is required by 11 a.m. each day. Blood pressure checks are every Monday. Guardian Angels of Ohio, a program of Trumbull County Probate Court, is seeking volunteers. The Angels reach out in friendship to the elderly and alone in Trumbull County by providing trained, qualified volunteers to serve as advocates. For more information contact 330-675-2521.

Licensed Social Workers are available to provide a number of free services to help senior consumers maintain their independence. Among the services are the following: completion of applications for such programs as HEAP and Lifeline, completion of insurance forms and help with Medicare enrollment, completion of living wills and durable power or attorney, and completion of paperwork associated with free/discount prescription programs. Niles S.C.O.P.E. Senior Center, 14 E. State St., will sponsor the following; Monday, bridge at 10 a.m., arthritis exercise program at 11, therapy and quilting at 1 p.m., and cards with sandwich and salad, and Weight Loss Support Group, all from 4 to 8 p.m.; Tuesday, square dancing at 9:30 a.m., lunch at 11:30, cards at 1 p.m., blood pressure, pinochle and health at 2:30 and square dancing at 7:30; Wednesday, chair yoga at 10 a.m., lunch at 11:30, bingo and Texas Hold’em at 1 p.m. and cards at 2:30; Thursday, line dancing at 9:30 a.m., lunch at 11:30 and pinochle, bridge and game day at 1 p.m.; and Friday, tax preparation at 9 a.m. by appointment, art class at 10, arthritis exercise at 11, therapy at 11:30, “Must Go Friday” lunch at 11:30 and choir practice at 1 p.m. Line dancing will be at 11:45 a.m. each Tuesday for six weeks. Senior Independence Senior Center of Mahoning County, 1110 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, has planned the following: Monday, Men’s and Women’s Needlecraft Club at 8:30 a.m. and gentle chair yoga and bridge at 1 p.m.; Tuesday, oil painting and Alzheimer Support Group at 10 a.m., computer class at 10 and noon, bridge for beginners at 11, exercises at noon and Digital Club and Caregiver Support Program at 2 p.m.; Wednesday, watercolor class at 10 a.m., tap class at noon and 500 cards at 1 p.m.; Thursday, Watch Our Weight and Woodcarvers at 9 a.m., exercises at noon, line dancing at 1 p.m. and beginner line dancing at 2; and Friday, income taxes at 9.
