ODOT open houses
YOUNGSTOWN
The Ohio Department of Transportation will have open houses statewide as it develops its four-year Statewide Transportation Improvement Program.
A public meeting is scheduled for 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Eastgate Office in City Center One, 100 E. Federal St. The open house allows the public to review and make comments on future transportation projects, according to an ODOT news release.
Candidate forum set for April 11

The Community Mobilization Committee will host a candidate forum for those running in the Youngstown City Council 4th- and 5th-Ward races at 6:30 p.m. April 11 at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1507 Hillman St. Also, there will be a discussion on the recently approved law that restricts collective bargaining for public employees.
Library board meeting
POLAND
The trustee board of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will have a special meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday in the meeting room of the Poland Library, 311 S. Main St.
The board will discuss library-owned property, use of technology, the library project in the North Jackson/Lake Milton area, and issues related to union-contract negotiations. The meeting will include an executive session.
School power program
Public schools looking to save on their electric bills have the option of participating in the Power 4 Schools Electric Program.
The program, approved by the Ohio School Boards Association, the Ohio Association of School Business Officials, the Buckeye Association of School Administrators and the Ohio Schools Council, is offered by FirstEnergy Solutions.
It is available to public school districts in the Ohio Edison, Toledo Edison and Duke Energy Ohio service areas.
Participating schools could save up to $80 million on electricity costs through 2019.
Sketches sought for building’s mural
WARREN
The Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, in collaboration with the Trumbull Art Gallery and Fine Arts Council of Trumbull County, is asking artists to submit sketches for a mural to be installed onto a building at 310 Elm Road Northeast.
Submissions of all types are encouraged. There is no specific theme. Submit three sketches per submission, one submission per artist.

Conservation award
CORTLAND
Amy Reeher, watershed coordinator for the Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District, has earned the Ohio SWCD Professional of the Year award.
Reeher joined the agency in 2000. Her duties include education, grants and the county stormwater program.
Ruth Sharec of Newton Falls accepted an award on behalf of her deceased husband, George Sharec, for being named as a member of the SWCD Hall of Fame.
George Sharec served as a supervisor of the district for 21 years from 1977 until 1998.
