Jazz ensembles set to perform Tuesday

The 11th annual Boardman High School Jazz Fest will take place Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Boardman Performing Arts Center.

The event will feature all Boardman music students, including the first edition of the combined seventh and eighth-grade Jazz Ensemble. BHS Jazz Ensembles one, two and three will also perform.

The evening begins with BHS Jazz Ensemble three performing “Watermelon Man,” “The Madison Time,” and “In the Afterlife” by the Squirrel Nut Zippers.

The combined seventh and eighth-grade Jazz Ensemble takes the stage next and features Boardman’s youngest jazz musicians. Their selections will include “In The Mode,” “Next In Line,” and “Bag’s Groove.” This group is led by middle school band directors Steven Chambers, Michael Shevock and Timothy Tuite.

BHS Jazz Ensemble II will take the stage with its unique blend of jazz and blues with some vocals thrown in for fun.

The headliner of the concert is the BHS Jazz Ensemble I. Jazz I will continue its tradition of high-energy and high-quality performances.

Selections will include Chick Corea’s “Spain,” Buddy Rich’s “Groovin’ Hard,” Stevie Wonder’s “Too High,” Natalie Cole’s “Orange-Colored Sky,” and Etta James’s “At Last,” which will feature vocalist Katelyn DeLadurantey.

Tickets for the jazz fest are available at the door at $3 for adults and $2 for students. As always, senior citizens and children will be admitted free of charge. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
