Early college puts call out for applicants

The city school district, in cooperation with Eastern Gateway Community College and Youngstown State University, is accepting open-enrollment applications for the 2011–12 Youngstown Early College freshman class.

Successful students can earn both a high-school diploma as well as an associate’s degree.

Families interested in learning more about the program and the open- enrollment process are invited to an informational meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Choffin Career and Technical Center, 200 E. Wood St.

Students who apply for the program must be interviewed by a committee that also will consider academic course work, school and class attendance, conduct records, first-generation college student, income status, under-represented population and untapped potential.
