Davis YMCA preschool throws indoor beach party March 19

Although the weather was warm on March 19, it wasn’t quite hot enough for a tropical beach party. That is, unless you’re inside the Davis YMCA in Boardman.
The temperature control and proximity to a world-class pool allowed the 4- and 5-year olds of the Davis Family YMCA Preschool a fun day at the beach.
“The idea for the event happened naturally,” explained preschool teacher Jill Cole. “At this point in March, we’re all bored with winter and hoping that spring will finally come. Our Beach Party is helping to shake off those winter blues.”
The preschoolers were welcomed into the Davis YMCA’s activity room, where they changed from their street clothes into stylish bathing suits. During their party, the students played beach volleyball, made leis, ate snacks, danced to island songs, and finished their day with a free swim in the facility’s pool.
“The pool is definitely a wonderful perk for our preschool,” said teacher Corrada Zebrasky. “We can use the pool even when it’s snowing outside. We’re lucky that it’s so close for the kids to enjoy.”
The beach extravaganza was all about pure fun, but the preschool’s teachers said that the learning never stops for their students.
“We’re making leis during our party, and stringing the flowers on the necklace definitely tests their fine motor skills. Our games provide plenty of brain teasers for the kids, as well,” shared Cole.
“Kids learn from every experience, but today is less about learning and more about revelry.”
