Mine workers to rally in Pa. for public employees

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (AP) — Thousands of union mine workers are set to rally and march in southwestern Pennsylvania on behalf of public employees in other states.

The United Mine Workers of America says it expects at least 3,000 members, their families and other supporters from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Virginia and West Virginia at the We Are One Solidarity March and Rally in Waynesburg today. The rally and march will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Marchers plan to walk along Pa. Route 21 and rally at the Greene County Fairgrounds.

Union officials are touting the event as the first major labor rally in support of workers in Wisconsin and other states where, the UMWA claims, “public collective bargaining rights are under attack or have already been stripped from dedicated public servants.”
