POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Sept. 17

Drugs: A traffic stop near U.S. Route 224 and state Route 616 led to charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia against Sarah E. Wooding, 25, of 411 Rockdale Ave., Boardman, when, police said, a small bag of suspected marijuana and a pipe were found.

Sept. 18

Drugs: Officers pulled over a vehicle on Route 224 and charged Kurt A. Smith, 34, of 435 Park Ave., Poland, with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. A police dog discovered a bag of suspected marijuana and three devices with suspected marijuana, a report said.

Sept. 20

Theft: A Lee Drive man reported a global positioning system unit and $100 to $120 stolen from his car.

Sept. 24

Harassment: A man in the 6200 block of New Castle Road filed a report.

Sept. 25

Missing person: A missing Pennsylvania juvenile was found walking in the 6100 block of Center Road and turned over to the custody of New Castle, Pa. police.

Sept. 24

Misuse of a credit card: A South Avenue woman found unauthorized charges after someone had signed for an online account with her debit/Visa card.

Theft: A wallet and credit cards were taken from a vehicle in the 6000 block of Applecrest Court.

Criminal damaging: A mailbox and its post sustained $125 in damage in the 600 block of Angeline Drive.

Harassment: A Bonnie Place woman reported receiving a series of threatening calls.

Menacing: A Grover Drive boy reported another boy came to the accuser’s home and threatened him.

Theft: A Bonnie Place woman reported $984, clothing and a cell phone stolen from her apartment.

Attempted burglary: A resident in the 7300 block of Oregon Trail found blood by a side window, apparently left by whoever had tried to enter.

Vandalism: The front door to a Prestwick Drive apartment was damaged.

Burglary: To a second-floor apartment in the 4500 block of Southern Boulevard. Stolen were a Sony PlayStation 3 system, two video games and $350.

Theft: A Poland woman noticed $150 missing from her account at a Youngstown-Poland Road bank.

Felonious assault: A Tod Avenue woman told police several males got out of a vehicle and that one struck her head with a small metal pipe while the others kicked her repeatedly before fleeing. She had several bumps and complained of neck and back pain.

Sept. 25

Breaking and entering: Someone pried open the front door to Spano Insurance Co., 6211 Market St. A small amount of change was missing.

Criminal damaging: Two trees were cut down without permission on an empty lot in the 1300 block of Meadowood Circle.

Arson: Police assisted firefighters who responded to a shed on fire in the 2000 block of Wolosyn Circle. A fire investigator said the blaze, which caused about $5,000 in damage, likely had been intentionally set, though no accelerant was found, a police report showed.

Theft: An MP3 player and a .38-caliber handgun were removed from a car in the 900 block of Boardman-Poland Road.

Assault: A Shields Road woman reported another woman slapped the accuser’s face.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle on Lockwood Boulevard had dents in its front quarter panel as well as chipped paint.

Aggravated menacing: A man told police that while at a Willow Drive apartment, a man age 18 to 20 pulled up his shirt, exposing a handgun in a threatening manner.

Theft: A woman reported the theft of her MP3 player while at a South Avenue fast-food restaurant.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone trying to enter a business in the 4900 block of Market Street damaged the front door.

Sept. 26

Criminal damaging: A beer bottle was thrown at a vehicle, damaging its front windshield, near Hopkins Road.

Assault: Frank J. Mirich, 40, of 2060 Wolosyn Circle, Boardman, was booked on charges of assault and criminal damaging after a woman alleged Mirich had choked her during an argument, then kicked her vehicle, causing a taillight to crack.

Theft: Amanda N. McCandless, 21, of 420 Falls Ave., New Castle, Pa., was charged with stealing $217 worth of clothing from Macy’s in Southern Park Mall.

Attempted theft: A Washington Boulevard woman told officers she believes someone tried to break into her car.

Assault: A Lemans Drive man alleged a neighbor punched his face during a dispute. The accuser was not injured, however.

Aggravated menacing: A Glenwoods Court man reported two neighbors who threw a tree branch in his yard later threatened to kill him during an argument about the property line.

Theft: A wallet, numerous pills and several credit cards were missing from a vehicle on Bob White Court.

Theft: An Afton Avenue woman discovered $80 missing while conducting a garage sale.

Criminal damaging: Someone shot paint balls at a car in the 7400 block of West Boulevard.

Sept. 27

Theft: Two juveniles stole $71 worth of merchandise from Wal-mart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Market Street led to the arrest of 31-year-old Michelle L. Hilty, 1136 W. Willard Ave. SE, Warren. Hilty was wanted by Stark County authorities on a theft charge.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 7400 block of Becky Court, from which $140 was taken.

Identity fraud: A Sugartree Drive woman reported getting several calls from someone claiming to be a medical official who was trying to obtain her checks’ bank-routing number.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered and stole from a garage in the 800 block of Glen Park Road a $200 stainless-steel sink.

Sept. 28

Theft: A man left Buffalo Wild Wings in Southern Park Mall without paying his $44 food bill.

Menacing: A Tod Avenue man reported a series of harassing and threatening calls.
