Woodlands Assisted Living Center at Hampton Woods, 1525 Western Reserve Road, will host a free joint-replacement lecture at 6 p.m. Monday.

The Arthritis Foundation Northeastern Ohio Chapter is sponsoring the event.

The speaker will be Dr. David Weimer of Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates.

Arthritis Foundation educational materials will be available.

Breast-surgery options

Dr. Maryann Payne, breast surgeon with the Magee Comprehensive Breast Center at UPMC Horizon, will present “Breast Surgery Options” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon, 875 N. Hermitage Road.

This lecture, the second in a series of three women’s health lectures at the Womancare Center this fall, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

Dr. Payne will speak about surgical treatment options available to women with breast cancer and other breast conditions.

Clinical breast exams

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, UPMC Horizon and Family Planning Services of Mercer County are teaming up to offer clinical breast examinations, Pap tests, and mammograms to eligible women through the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s HealthyWoman Program.

Eligible women are ages 50-64 with no health insurance. Participants may schedule an examination between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday at the Family Planning Services office in Sharon.

At the completion of the examination, participants will receive a voucher for a free mammogram at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon, which will be scheduled by the Family Planning Services staff for a later date in October.
