Infant dies after bullet piece hit him in head
READING, Pa. (AP) — An infant has died two days after being struck in the head by a bullet fragment that came from the floor above him inside a Pennsylvania home.
The Berks County coroner’s office says 7-week-old Michael Johnson died Tuesday night. The baby had been struck by the bullet fragment Sunday night inside a home in Reading about 45 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
Police say a man on the second floor of the home fired a gun into the floor. A fragment passed through to the first floor, striking the baby.
The Reading Eagle reports the boy died at a hospital he’d been airlifted to for treatment.
Investigators say the boy’s mother told them the gun went off accidentally. They’re looking for the man they say fired the shot but no charges have been filed.
