Stocks inch higher before confidence report
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are inching higher as traders are cautiously optimistic about some improving economic reports overseas and as corporate dealmaking continues.
The Asian Development Bank has raised its forecast for the region’s economic growth this year. Consumer confidence is rising in Germany.
In the U.S., investors will also get a reading on consumer confidence today. The report is expected to show a modest dip from August’s level.
Dealmaking continued with Endo Pharmaceuticals agreeing to buy Qualitest Pharmaceuticals for $1.2 billion.
The Dow Jones industrial average is up 5, or less than 0.1 percent, at 10,817. The S&P 500 is up 1, or 0.1 percent, at 1,143, while the Nasdaq composite is up 4, or 0.2 percent, at 2,373.
