Police: UT Austin gunman was student, acted alone

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Law enforcement officials say they believe the gunman who opened fire with an AK-47 at a University of Texas campus library before killing himself was a student who acted alone.

Campus police Chief Robert Dahlstrom said at a Tuesday news conference that officials have ruled out the possibility of a second shooter. He says there was initial confusion about the number of suspects because the gunman fired shots in multiple locations.

Officials say the man fired an assault rifle on the sixth floor of the library early today before killing himself.
