POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Hubbard, Girard and Liberty:

HUBBARD

Sept. 22

Attempted burglary: A Saul Drive woman called 911 to report an attempted break-in.

Attempted burglary: A woman in the 30 block of Hillview Drive found damage to a door handle, apparently after someone had tried to enter.

Recovered property: A woman gave police a briefcase she saw fall from the roof of a vehicle in the 800 block of West Liberty Street.

Sept. 23

Arrest: Police responded to a suspicious person near Rebecca Avenue, then arrested 48-year-old Paul E. Robinson, 2316 Miller-Graber Road, Warren. Robinson was wanted by Geauga County authorities on a charge of failing to appear in court on one count of disorderly conduct.

Sept. 24

Criminal damaging: A Westview Drive man discovered damage to a screen door.

Sept. 25

Assault: A worker for a West Liberty Street restaurant reported a customer threw a sandwich at her.

Sept. 26

Criminal mischief: An officer on patrol saw several smashed pumpkins and a landscaping light in the road near Helen Avenue.

GIRARD

Sept. 23

Theft: A boy reported his bicycle stolen in the 300 block of South Market Street.

Identity fraud: An Oak Street woman learned that someone had opened an account for which she is being charged an $85 monthly service fee.

Sept. 24

Assault: A boy reported a woman grabbed his shirt and pushed him next to a concession stand at a stadium near North Highland Avenue.

Criminal damaging: A man driving on Interstate 80 reported someone threw an object from the Mosier Road overpass, partially shattering his windshield and causing him to nearly lose control of the vehicle.

Sept. 25

Attempted abduction: A woman walking on Market Street told police a man age 30 to 35 with dark hair and a beard in a gray Pontiac Grand Am pulled a gun and demanded she get in the car. The woman fled and was not harmed.

Burglary: A man and his 9-year-old daughter reported someone with a gun tried to enter their residence through a bathroom window.

Sept. 26

Domestic violence: Jesse C. Boarts of 324 Powers Ave., Girard, was charged with the crime after his wife, who lives at another residence, alleged Boarts had threatened to beat up and kill her.

Criminal damaging: A brick was used to break a kitchen window in the 80 block of East Main Street.

Burglary: To a residence in the 40 block of Second street through a rear door. Stolen was a $500 laptop computer.

Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 100 block of West Second Street was found with a broken driver’s-side window.

Criminal mischief: Someone threw sauce on a car’s driver’s side in the 50 block of East Howard Street.

Burglary: To a garage in the 60 block of Stambaugh Street, though nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Breaking and entering: An extension ladder, a weed trimmer, a tent and other items were removed from a shed in the 200 block of East Wilson Avenue. The loss came to $550.

LIBERTY

Sept. 22

Criminal damaging: A vehicle’s passenger-side window was broken in the 4000 block of Belmont Avenue.

Theft: Kelleyn A. Jones, 19, of 542 Carlotta Drive, Youngstown, was charged with theft and underage consumption of alcohol after a package of earrings was stolen from Walmart, 200 Goldie Road. A bottle of vodka also was found, police said.

Theft: A charge was pending against a 50-year-old Boardman woman who reportedly stole from Walmart $259 worth of merchandise.

Theft/damage: A rental van’s window was broken at a Belmont Avenue motel before someone removed a laptop computer.

Sept. 23

Menacing: A Lynn Drive woman reported that despite a protection order against him, a Warren man, 39, had been making threats via cell phone.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a shed in the 2100 block of Crews Hood Road and stole a saw, a battery and its charger and an edging device.

Theft: A Tomilu Drive man accused an acquaintance of stealing a .45-caliber handgun from him.

Assault: A Youngstown woman found lying on the sidewalk reported that while walking in the 3100 block of Belmont Avenue, three males punched her in the chest and knocked her to the ground. The woman was taken to Forum Health Northside Medical Center in Youngstown after complaining of a sore chest.

Theft: A charge was pending against a Campbell woman, 49, after costume jewelry was stolen from Walmart.

Sept. 25

Drug paraphernalia: Township police conducted a follow-up investigation in the 3100 block of Hadley Avenue, where they charged 28-year-old Kristen L. Perkins, 3198 Hadley, with possession of a drug-abuse instrument after saying a hypodermic needle was found.

Theft: An 18-year-old Campbell man faces a possible charge after two packages of earrings were stolen from Walmart.

Theft: Clothing and other merchandise was stolen from Walmart, resulting in a possible charge against a 33-year-old Girard woman.

Sept. 26

Arrest: Authorities took custody of 39-year-old Eugene P. Livi, 824 Lawrence Ave., Girard. He was wanted on a warrant from the township.

Aggravated menacing: Authorities received a report of an altercation between two brothers at a Euclid Boulevard home, where one brother had reportedly threatened the other with a 9 mm handgun. Police confiscated the firearm, the report said.

Attempted breaking and entering: Someone tried to break into Blue Ribbon Rentals Inc., 3620 Belmont Ave. An 8-pound weight was found near the front door, though no entry was made, police said.

Sept. 27

Arrest: A traffic stop near state Route 193 resulted in the arrest of 19-year-old Bradley D. Lawrence, 2945 Roosevelt Drive, Liberty, on a charge of failing to appear in court.

Assault: A woman at a Belmont Avenue motel told police a man had grabbed her neck and struck her during an altercation.

Arrest: An officer working a security detail at Liberty High School, 1 Leopard Way, charged a 17-year-old township boy with assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and juvenile offenses after having asked several students to keep a walkway clear. The teen yelled profanities and shoved the officer, who used a stun gun when the boy tried to grab his vest, a report showed.
