NYC forced to move oft-stolen Joey Ramone sign

NEW YORK

Officials say a metal homage to the late punk legend Joey Ramone may be New York City’s most-stolen street sign.

The Department of Transportation recently had the “Joey Ramone Place” sign reinstalled in lower Manhattan for the fourth time since 2003.

This time, it was raised 8 feet to curb temptation. The New York Post says that puts it about 20 feet above street level.

The group’s longtime drummer, Marky Ramone, thinks Joey would appreciate the most-stolen distinction. But he adds: “Now you have to be an NBA player to see it.”

The sign is at Bowery and East Second Street.

The department says Broadway, Wall Street and Love Lane signs also have attracted sign thieves.

The sign’s move was first reported on the blog EV Grieve.

Pa. district judge, constable help nab burglary suspect

LEBANON, Pa.

After nearly two decades as a judge, a former central Pennsylvania police officer hasn’t lost his instincts.

Lebanon District Judge Tom Capello and a constable chased down a juvenile burglary suspect last week after the judge spotted something suspicious at a home across the street from his office.

Capello says he saw the 17-year-old suspect looking into windows then climbing inside.

Capello and constable Jack Shirk knocked on the door then heard what Capello called a “phony excuse” for the teen’s being in the house. They staked out the home and began an eight-block chase after the juvenile emerged carrying two laptops.

Police did not identify the suspect because of his age.

Capello was a Lebanon police officer for 15 years before taking a seat on the bench in 1991.

Pa. adult-store clerk foils 2 ‘armed’ with toy gun

DUNCANSVILLE, Pa.

Police say two women who tried to rob a central Pennsylvania adult bookstore with a toy gun didn’t fool a clerk, who told them to “get a real gun.”

Authorities say Shannon Cheripka, 28, of Glasgow, and Angela Crook, 26, of Coalport, attempted to rob the Adult World store in Duncansville around 1 a.m. Thursday.

Cheripka told police the clerk said, “First, if you’re going to rob someone, get a real gun. Second off, you’re not getting any money.”

Authorities say the clerk chased away the women before police in nearby Logan Township arrested them in a van the clerk had described.

The women remained in the Blair County Jail on Friday on robbery and other charges. It was unclear if they had lawyers.
