EPA delays testing in Ohio river

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is delaying plans to test sediment in Ohio’s Cuyahoga River between Akron and Cuyahoga Falls because the equipment won’t be available until next year.
The Akron Beacon Journal reports that the EPA boat needed to test the river has been tied up with tests and cleanup on the Kalamazoo River since an oil pipeline ruptured in western Michigan this summer.
The ship — a research vessel called the Mudpuppy — won’t be available to test sediments behind the Ohio Edison Co. dam until next year.
Environmental officials need to do more testing there to determine the depth and volume of sediment, where last year, the EPA found moderate levels of contamination.
