“DEXTER” (9 p.m., Showtime): Fans of this killer drama series are undoubtedly still haunted by the chilling images of last season’s finale, in which Dexter (Michael C. Hall) discovered the body of his wife, Rita, in a bathtub full of blood. As Season 5 opens, Dexter finds himself feeling responsible, even guilty. Unable to deal with the trauma, he makes a drastic decision that will impact everyone around him.
“the simpsons” (8 p.m., Fox): Those spunky kids from “Glee” seem to be everywhere these days. Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Amber Riley lend their voices to the 22nd season opener of “The Simpsons,” an episode that has Lisa attending a performance arts camp.
“The Amazing Race” (8:30 P.M., CBS): Buckle up tight and pack your parka for the 17th edition of “The Amazing Race.” This season the intrepid globe-trotters will stop by the Arctic Circle. Brrrr.
“Desperate Housewives” (9 p.m., ABC): Vanessa Williams joins the fun — and the shenanigans — on Wisteria Lane as “Desperate Hosewives” kicks off its seventh season.

Magician Paul Gertner will perform “Ten Fingers” for adults and children 10 and older at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Butler Institute of American Art’s Beecher Center Auditiorium. There is limited seating. The cost is $35 for reserved Gold Circle seating and $25 per person reserved for general seating. He also will perform “The Art of Magic” for children 10 and younger, accompanied by an adult. This show is at 2 p.m. Oct. 17 only. The cost is $20 per adult and $15 per child.
