Glenwood cross country runners finish fifth
The Boardman Glenwood Middle School cross country team finished fifth out of 11 teams in Suburban League action in Niles Sept. 14.
Five boys placed in the top 45 out of 123 runners. Juan Santiago finished third and Zach Stamp finished fourth. Nick Long came in 33rd, Brett Brunko came in 39th and Alex Fanzo was 41st.
In the girls’ race, Regan O’Hara finished fourth in a tough field of nearly 90 runners. Elly Larrier finished 13th, Allison Green finished 20th and Stephanie DeMain was 53rd.
Boardman runners set new personal bests
The Boardman High School boys cross country team placed six in the top 20 at the third Suburban League meet of the season Sept. 14 at Stevens Park in Niles.
Senior Eddie Adu-Poku took second in a time of 17:15, while freshman Mark Hadley was fifth overall with a time of 17:57. Next up for the Spartans was freshman Alan Burns, seventh at 18:08, followed by senior Alex Scott in eighth with a time of 18:20.
Also placing high for Boardman were sophomore Sam Sheronovich and senior Corey Zell whose times of 18:35 and 18:44, respectively, were good enough for 14th and 18th places. The seniors have now successfully completed undefeated regular seasons for four consecutive years and are a part of an eight-year undefeated regular season run.
Setting new personal bests at the Niles course were senior Alex Terlecky at 19:19 and freshman Adam Sinclair at 22:42.
Eighth-grade team gets win over Salem
The Boardman Glenwood Middle School eight-grade volleyball team served Salem a 25-21 and 25-17 loss Sept. 16.
Hope Landers had seven kills and two aces. Katie Davis had 17 assists and one ace. Amanda Lipke had seven kills and four aces. Amanda Moss had six kills and one dig.
The seventh-grade volleyball team lost to Salem 25-20, 25-20. Krista Johnson had two aces, one kill and one dig. Andrea Gardner had four kills. Elli Hritz had two digs and one kill. Dara Genovese had two assists and one ace.
Boardman sweeps up on the tennis court
The Boardman Spartans hosted Canton McKinley Sept. 14 and won the match 5-0.
In singles play, Lindsay Kirkham-Olsen and Arina Kravitz won their matches in two 6-0 sets. Michelle Kordupel won her match in two sets, 6-0 and 6-1.
In doubles play, Rachel Cantanzriti and Nicole Pavlansky worked together to win their match in two sets, 6-0 and 6-1.
Kelly Kordupel and Jen Moore won their match with 6-2 and 6-4 sets.
Spartans win away from home
The Boardman boys varsity and junior varsity soccer teams won at Lake High School in Federal League action Sept. 14.
The varsity won 2-1 with goals scored by junior Nico Graziani, assisted by Christian Silvestri. Silvestri also scored a goal on a penalty kick.
Sophomore Anthony Calautti had five saves in the goal.
The junior varsity also defeated Lake 2-1.
Goals were scored by junior Drew Rober on a penalty kick and sophomore Danny Gotham scored off of an assist by Chase Sawyer.
Junior Mike Luongo had two saves in the goal.
