Today’s Pink Ribbon Run aims to bring awareness about breast cancer.

Forum Health Trumbull Memorial Hospital will host the fifth annual event that is expected to draw about 600 participants.

“It’s put on as an awareness event for breast-cancer prevention, screening and survivorship,” said Christine Ruggieri, director of community relations.

The run begins at 9:15 a.m. after opening ceremonies at 9 a.m. Participants will pay $12 to register this morning. There is a one-mile run/ walk and a 5K run/walk option. The course begins under the hospital bridge over Market Street and winds through nearby neighborhoods.

Ruggieri said last year’s event raised about $6,000, which goes toward the oncology fund at the Trumbull Memorial Hospital Ireland Cancer Center.

“The staff of the cancer center is all involved, and it’s just nice to see a lot of patients out there,” Ruggieri said.
